Grade Level: 2nd-3rd Grade (STEAM Group 2)

Day and Time: Tuesdays 5:00 pm-6:00 pm

Duration of Unit Theme: December-June

Theme: Self-Esteem & Resilience

 

Big Ideas: Listening Skills, forming an opinion after research, drafting a research based speech, using figurative language in your speech.

 

Student Work:

 Students will…

 

  • Listen to a “song of the month” and analyze its lyrics and relate them to the theme. Students will save lyrics so that they can choose to use them as a grabber for their speech.
  • Listen to speeches about self-esteem and resilience and take detailed notes.
  • Participate in group and partner discussions about topics related to theme.
  • Draft a prepared speech based on speeches and articles about self-esteem and resilience. Include own opinion about chosen topic. Speeches will not be memorized word for word. Instead, students will use skeleton notes and rehearsal time to prepare for presentation. Visual Aides and props are optional.
